No virtual desktops, nothing hidden out of sight. Your windows stay real and spread across one wide space. You just scroll to reach them.

It starts with scrolling

Your monitor is a window onto a much larger grid, and scrolling is how you move it. Everything else in SpaceShift is built on that one idea. Nothing is simulated or redrawn: your windows genuinely travel with the view, so wherever you left something is where it stays. Rest the pointer against a screen edge and the view glides on its own.

The radar keeps you oriented

A space that large is easy to get lost in. The radar is a small always-on-top map of the whole grid, with live thumbnails of your windows and a glowing cell marking the panel you are looking at. Drag inside it and the view flies with your hand, or right-click any panel to land on it straight away.

And plenty of ways to move

Everything else exists to shorten the journey. Ten jump slots hold saved positions you can return to instantly, every movement has a keyboard shortcut, one press gathers your windows back to the center or into the panel you are in, and the axis locks keep the view on a single direction when a layout runs one way.

How can I download SpaceShift?

Create a free account here and confirm your email, then the downloads appear on your account page. You get the installer and the user manual. No payment details are needed to download, and the 14 day demo gives you every feature while you decide.

Is SpaceShift freeware?

No. It comes with a free 14 day demo, and during those 14 days nothing is locked or disabled, you get the complete app. After that SpaceShift stops launching until you register a license. No card is needed to start the demo.

Do I need to buy it for every computer I own?

No. One purchase covers up to 3 computers, so your desktop, laptop and one more are all included. Each of the 3 also includes one reset, so if you replace a computer you can free that spot on your account page and register the new machine.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once and SpaceShift is yours, updates included.

Do I need an internet connection to use it?

No - SpaceShift never connects to the internet, period. Not to register, not to run; the app has no networking at all. Your only trip online is right here in your browser, to generate your license key. Perfect for locked-down or air-gapped machines.

How is this different from Windows virtual desktops?

Windows virtual desktops are separate, invisible workspaces you switch between. SpaceShift is one continuous desktop. You scroll across it, you see your windows move, and the radar always shows you the whole picture. Nothing is ever hidden.

Why does it ask for administrator rights?

SpaceShift moves other applications' windows. Administrator rights let it manage every window on your desktop, including apps that run elevated. It never touches anything else.

Can I keep some apps from moving?

Yes, add them to the Exclusion List and they stay put while everything else scrolls. SpaceShift also has plenty of other options to control, recall, and manage your windows beyond that.

Do I need a mouse, or is a laptop trackpad okay?

A trackpad works fine. Scrolling is based on where your cursor is, not what device moved it. You can also set your own hotkeys to scroll instead of touching the edges at all.

Does it work with multiple monitors?

Yes. SpaceShift runs on your primary monitor and leaves windows on your other monitors exactly where they are.

Can I use it with Windows' virtual desktops?

Yes. SpaceShift works on whichever desktop you launch it on, and it only ever touches windows on that desktop. Anything you keep on your other virtual desktops stays exactly where it is. Its grid and edge glow live on the desktop you started it on, so switching to another desktop leaves them behind. To use SpaceShift on a different desktop, just launch it there, or pin it to all desktops from Task View (right-click the window, then Show this window on all desktops).

Does it work on Mac or Linux?

Not yet. SpaceShift is Windows only right now. We're working on other platforms and will announce it when it's ready.

What happens to my windows if I close SpaceShift?

SpaceShift automatically puts every window back where it was before you opened it. Nothing stays scrolled off-screen or out of place.

Will this slow down my computer?

No. SpaceShift is lightweight and runs quietly in the background. You'll only notice it while you're actively scrolling or using the radar.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) or Windows 11, 64-bit. It runs best on Windows 11. On hardware, a dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 200 MB of free disk space is all it needs, any PC from the last several years will run it comfortably.

How licensing works

In SpaceShift, open Registration and copy your System ID.
Paste it into a license below and click Generate to get your License Key.
Paste the key back into SpaceShift and click Register. It is verified right on your computer, no internet needed.

Heads up: each license key is permanently locked to the System ID you generate it for. Make sure the System ID you paste matches the one shown in SpaceShift's Registration window before you generate the key.

Moving to a new computer? Click Reset on that license to free it, then register on the new machine. Each license includes one reset.
